Teenage pregnancy can have serious health, social, and economic consequences.
There are different risk factors

Health risks: Pregnant adolescents are at risk of complications from pregnancy and childbirth. Babies born to younger mothers are also at greater risk, like mental health conditions and more

Social risks: Unmarried pregnant adolescents may face stigma, rejection, or violence.

Economic risks: Teenage pregnancy have negative economic effects on girls, their families, and communities.

Causes

  • Child marriage and sexual abuse increase the risk of pregnancy for girls.
  • Lack of access to contraception
  • Barriers to obtaining and using contraceptives can prevent adolescents from avoiding unintended pregnancies.
  • Inadequate support systems and information about school/ trade skills can prevent the cause of child marriage.

Prevention

  1. Birth control: Birth control, methods like implants can reduce the risk of pregnancy.
  2. Community education: Community education can raise awareness about sexual and reproductive risk and contraceptive methods.
  3. Interventions:  Interventions in schools and communities can address sexual violence and raise awareness about discrimination and disadvantages.

Identifying and addressing various forms of child abuse and neglect, including physical, emotional, and sexual abuse.while also exploring preventative measures and crucial role of different stakeholders like parents, caregivers, educators, healthcare professionals, and social services in safeguarding children’s well-being.

  2. Emotional abuse: verbal abuse, humiliation, rejection
  3. Sexual abuse: inappropriate touching, sexual assault, exploitation
